How to Play Video Poker Machines That are Tight

When things get tight the casinos also get tight. The gaming commission allows casinos a certain range of the take. The take is how much their video poker machines can keep over a period of time.

If you like playing video poker, either on or offline, then you must be aware that the casinos can change the payoffs. This means they can program the computer chips to a designated payout pattern. The casinos know the two human factors that exist, greed and fear.

Exploiting these emotions makes the house millions in extra profits, of course this is promoted as fun. Who has fun when you were going to spend $100.00 and ended up spending $1,000.00. That's fun for the house.

You must develop a money strategy and learn to stick to it, this is the first step to overcoming the houses edge.

Cold Ducks

This is one term used in Vegas for a video poker machine which is not paying. You ask why? I don't have a clue, I just hear this said quite often, especially these days.

When you hear "tightening the machines" this can mean a number of things. They truly can adjust the program inside a poker machine to throw less winning hands. Another factor can be less people playing a machine which slows down the winning cycles, either way a machine can become a Cold Duck because of it.

You can overcome this situation by using a strategy that will get you away from a cold poker machine.

Again, the computer chip is programmed to throw hands which are close to a winning hand, but just don't quite make it. This way you will think the machine is about to hit and spend more to find out. Most of the time it won't, the casino hopes you think it will.

The casinos are masters at getting you to think and gamble a certain way, and it's not so you can win. Living here in Las Vegas, after 5 years, you see it all.

Frédéric Chopin: Reminiscences $19.52 Released in 2010 in connection with a series of nine recitals of Frédéric Chopin's keyboard music, Reminiscences is Artur Pizarro's elegant tribute for the composer's 200th anniversary year. While he programmed all of Chopin's solo piano music for his concert appearances in London, for this recording Pizarro has turned to pieces he learned in his youth, whether absorbed from Artur Rubinstein's and Heinrich Neuhaus' LPs or picked up from his grandmother, Berta da Nóbrega; her duo partner, Evaristo Campos Coelho; and his own piano teacher, Sequeira Costa. Early contact with great recordings and these musicians informed Pizarro's own style of playing Chopin, and he asserts that their teaching at one point or another influenced his interpretations of the works selected for this album. Included are such perennial favorites as the Grand Valse Brillante in E flat major; the Fantaisie-Impromptu in C sharp minor; the Polonaise in A flat major, "Héroique"; the Nocturne in E flat major; and the Scherzo in B flat minor, as well as other waltzes, nocturnes, and mazurkas to which Pizarro formed early attachments. On the whole, his renditions are passionate and often quite lyrical, though his use of rubato at times seems mannered and not always necessary. Yet if one assumes that some exaggerated effects are called for, considering the performance styles he draws on, then one could make the case that this is Chopin as Pizarro remembers hearing long ago, perhaps a different proposition than what some listeners might expect to hear from a modern performer. This hybrid SACD from Linn Records offers warm and credible reproduction and the frequency range is quite wide, so Pizarro's pianissimos are captured as distinctly as his fortissimos, and the piano's tone is rich and full. ~ Blair Sanderson, Rovi Performers: Artur Pizarro - Piano
